Unforgivable Cologne
Unforgivable Cologne For Men by Sean John is P Diddy’s original move in the men’s fragrance market. Sean John Combs is the birth name of P Diddy, aka Puffy, aka Puff Daddy. The design house of Sean John was founded in 1998, when Sean Combs began marketing men’s fashion items to the American public. I’m not a big fan of Unforgivable Cologne, so don’t expect the usual good review that I’ve given most of the other colognes on this blog.
Unforgivable Cologne
Unforgivable isn’t offensive by any means, but there’s nothing about P Diddy’s cologne that stands out and makes it different or better than the other mens fragrances on the market. Marketed by Sean John as “dangerous, explosive and cool”, P Diddy has claimed that Unforgivable contains “Sicilian lemon, champagne, Tuscan basil and rum”, but I frankly have a hard time imagining that’s the real essences in the cologne. That sounds more like a mixed drink than a perfume, though it might explain why Unforgivable Cologne For Men can’t be ranked in the highest ranks of men’s colognes.
Unforgivable Cologne by Sean John doesn’t last very long. You’ll need to refreshen every 3 hours or so. This at least means that Unforgivable Mens Fragrance isn’t overpowering, and the aroma does have a manly, masculine quality – though it is flowery to my sense of smell, which I often equate with women’s perfume. You’ll find Unforgivable Cologne comfortable to wear, since it won’t dominate the space you are in.
Unforgivable Hype for Men’s Cologne
One thing I do like about Unforgivable Cologne is the bottle, which is black, ribbed and easy to hold. In fact, the discussion of the Unforgivable cologne bottle prompted one other designer to sue Sean John for copying their bottle. I personally think that’s a silly lawsuit, given that most cologne bottles tend to love similar and there is no way that P Diddy was trying to steal this lesser known, lesser hyped cologne’s brand recognition.
That being said, given the hype before Unforgivable Cologne and the number of reviewers who jumped on this bandwagon (making Unforgivable Cologne by Sean John a top seller), P Diddy’s cologne simply doesn’t live up to the hype.
Unforgivable Brand Name
Of course, the name is unforgivable. “Unforgivable” is simply an awful name for a men’s fragrance. It’s just such a negative term, but not in a passionate way like “Obsession”. “Un-” probably isn’t a good way to start a product name, somewhat like using “anti-” to brand yourself. You might as well name the cologne “Unapproachable”.
If nothing else, naming your fragrance Unforgivable invites mockery, because every critic can make their own joke about how bad the cologne is. I’ve read several comments like “This cologne is so awful it is unforgivable.”
About Sean John
The Design House of Sean John has been a large success for P Diddy, like most of his business ventures are. The line has been in existence for more than 10 years now and continues to market new lines of fragrances and clothes. There have been controversies along the way with the House of Sean John, involving working conditions in Honduras and a type of fur used for one garment.
In either case, P Diddy’s reaction was swift and proper. For one, I can’t imagine that Sean Combs knew about these incidents beforehand. When he did learn about the raccoon dog fur, he swiftly pulled this product off the market. Sean Comb’s reaction to the working conditions at the Sean John plant in Honduras was even more telling.
Sean John Working Conditions in Honduras
When a New York Times article criticized lousy working conditions at the Honduran facility, P Diddy immediately got involved and announced a zero-tolerance policy to those responsible. Not only did Sean Combs see that air conditioning and water facilities were installed in his industry, but he also announced he would let the workers form a union – something that most employers only allow after months and years of hard-fought negotiation. So let’s give Sean Combs credit for a humane approach to his business, if admitting towards some negligence in the initial organization of his company.
