Pheromone Cologne

Pheromone Cologne is all the rage in the cologne and fragrance industry these days. Pheromone-enhanced colognes are based on the idea that naturally produced pheromones work to alter the behavior of animals in nature. When a dog goes “in heat”, that dog is emitting pheromones that cause all the male dogs to want to mate with her. Pheremone chemistry produces all kinds of behavior-altering effects in animals, like leading the bee to honey and marking territory so others don’t enter. Human pheromones are not as strong as many animal pheromones, so pheromone cologne was invented to affect the behavior of women. Essentially, women are supposed to smell the pheromones you’re wearing and want to mate with you.

But does “pheromone cologne” really work?

Well, there are all kinds of theories about pheromone cologne, but many of them seem dubious. For instance, one theory is that cologne masks a man’s natural pheromones, in effect producing the opposite effect from the intended. Women can’t smell your pheromones, so they aren’t interested. The thing is, human pheromones are pretty subtle anyway, so cologne isn’t likely to block a woman’s ability to sense your pheromones – if they can do that at all. I wouldn’t fall for the story of needing pheromones in your cologne, because non-pheromone cologne blocks your natural pheromones.

Another is that pheromone cologne success rates are dependant on a woman ovulating. The theory goes that women going through ovulation will respond to pheromone colognes and want to have your children, while women who aren’t ovulating will be immune to the effects of pheromone colognes. I’m not a biologist or a chemist, but I’m not sure this theory is correct, either. It may just be an excuse to explain why pheromone colognes don’t work automatically, like they seem to do with baser animals.

Pheromone Colognes

Mostly, pheromone colognes appear to be a marketing ploy. Many of these fragrances don’t smell so good, and there is little evidence that women prefer to be around men who smell bad to men with a pleasant aroma. Simple common sense and experience in the world should tell you that.

Also, many pheromone cologne products are extremely expensive. Some bottles cost twice that of standard colognes. I’ve seen bottles of pheromone cologne that sell for $90 or $100, where a good bottle of cologne (same size) might cost $45 or $50. If you have the choice to make, I would suggest you buy a bottle of Acqua Di Gio by Georgio Armani and save up the other $40-$50 for the dinner you’re going to buy your ladyfriend.

With all that in mind, if you want to buy pheromone cologne and try out its mind-altering qualities, here’s a list of some of the more popular pheromone colognes on the market and what other people are saying about them.

Realm For Men by Erox

“Realm For Men” is the most popular pheromone cologne on Amazon. It has twelve 5-star ratings, three 4-star ratings, one 2-star rating and one 1-star rating. What men kept coming back to about Realm For Men is that it actually smelled good, which cannot always be said about pheromone cologne. If you’re going to try out a pheromone-based cologne, try Realm For Men, because you at least won’t be turning off women with your bad odors.

Pure Instinct Pheromone Cologne

“Pure Instinct Cologne” has one 5-star rating, six 4-star ratings, one 3-star rating and two 1-star ratings. Some men complained that it smells like watermelon flavoring, while another disputed whether a natural pheromone could work on both men and woman – as it claims to do. Comes in a bottle that looks like an iodine bottle or Compound-W wart removal, which didn’t give me a lot of confidence.

Icebreaker Pheromone Cologne – Attract Women

Icebreaker Pheromone Cologne got mixed reviews, including five 5-star ratings, one 4-star rating, two 3-star ratings, one 2-star rating and one 1-star rating. Men that said it worked claimed they followed the “instruction booklet”, while those who didn’t like Icebreaker Cologne claimed it didn’t work or smelled like cheap cologne.

Amazon Ratings and Pheromone Colognes

You might be thinking from the Amazon ratings that most customers were pleased, but I’ve always noted that Amazon reviews tend to skew towards the positive. It seems like people who like the product are more likely to spend the time to give an endorsement. I’ve also heard that some people try to build up their ratings on Amazon by giving positive reviews, because people are more likely to given good ratings to good reviews. So when you start to see any significant number of reviews less than 4 or 5, that should send up red flags.

Pheromone Colognes

Other pheromone colognes on the market or that have been on the market include Athena Pheromone Cologne, Pherone Formulas, Pherplay Cologne and Pherlife Cologne. Since I couldn’t find these on Amazon, I’m assuming Amazon decided against selling them because they were dubious themselves about them. Either that, or pheromone cologne companies come and go at a fairly high rate.

All in all, I would suggest you go with a nice-smelling, fresh cologne and leave the gimmicks for others. It’s possible that pheromone cologne has a placebo effect on certain men, giving them the added confidence to approach women by convincing them they have a hidden advantage. If that’s the case, it’s possible this factor might account for some men having better success than they did without pheromone fragrances. As they say, confidence is the best aphrodisiac.
