New Cologne
Finding the right “new cologne” can be torture for you and those around you. If you get it wrong, you’ll be wearing that bad new cologne for months. You’re friends and co-workers will notice, and the women in your life won’t be as attracted to you. It’s easy to find the new fragrance that smells great on your wrist or on the blotter in the store. But when it turns on you 30 minutes after you walk out the door, you’ve made another bad cologne purchase.
So what do you do?
I have a great idea for testing out new cologne.
If you work anywhere near a mall or fragrance shop, this will work for you. This idea will take a couple of minutes a day for a week or two at the most.
New Cologne Idea
Turn your shopping for new cologne into a group activity. Find several co-workers (preferably women) who will agree to be your aroma experts. Every day at lunch, go to the cologne counter and have another brand fragrance sprayed on you. After lunch, go back to work and get feedback on the cologne-of-the-day.
New Cologne Test Grades
Make out a standardized test sheet for each one of your testers, and have categories such as cologne strength, cologne freshness, muskiness/fruitiness, the masculinity scale – whatever you find important in a cologne.
Have each tester test your scent (at least 30 minutes after being sprayed) each day after lunch, then mark on a scale of 1-5 or 1-10 their impressions of each cologne. Do this for a week or two, compare notes and go purchase one or two colognes that made the biggest (and best) impression.
Tell your aroma experts to be as honest as possible, since they will have to smell this cologne on you for months and months. Get an idea which ones are “just being nice” and which ones will give honest opinions. Don’t excluse anyone who wants to participate. Get as much cologne information as possible.
Advantages of Testing New Cologne
There are several advantages to testing out cologne samples this way.
1. More Information is Good – You get real feedback from real people before you make your purchase.
2. It’s Fun – A group activity is fun for everyone involved, and good for camaraderie in the office. Women love to help guys this way and they love being consulted about fashion.
3. You’ll Be the Center of Attention – It’s a good way to get a lot of attention from the women in the office. For a couple of minutes a day, you’ll be the center of attention. It’s also a good way to refashion your identity. You won’t be the guy with the strong cologne, but the guy with the cologne “we all picked out”.
4. It’s a Good Ice-Breaker – If there’s that woman in the office you’re attracted to, but having trouble approaching, this is a great ice-breaker. Make her one of the test group and you have something to talk about. At the very least, once a day, she’s entering your personal space and noticing your scent. Plus, it gives you a chance to see where you rate on her “masculinity scale”. :->
