About Liz Claiborne Inc.
Liz Claiborne Incorporated is one of the great modern success stories in the fashion world. Founded in New York City as late as in 1976, and ten years later Liz Claiborne Inc. was listed on the Fortune 500. Liz Claiborne has topped $5,000,000,000 in sales per year before, and has over 30,000 retail outlets where its products are sold.
One reason for Liz Claiborne’s success is the insistence that the company insisted its line of products be placed in one spot in a department store, as opposed to being spread unnoticeably throughout the store. This increased brand recognition and helped the product line develop its own following among the fashion conscious public. Many credit Liz Claiborne’s innovation with the creation of a new role for fashion merchandizing.
Liz Claiborne died at the age of 79 in 2007, while william McComb continues to direct operation as the CEO of Liz Claiborn Inc. Isaac Mizrahi is the designer for a revamped women’s line, Liz Claiborne New York. The brands sold by Liz Claiborne are Lucky Brand Jeans, Kate Space, Juicy Couture and Mexx. Other brand names associated with Liz Claiborne Inc are Dana Buchman, Liz & Co, Claiborne, Marvella, Narisco Rodriguez, Bora Bora, Realities, Kenzie, Concepts by Claiborne, Trifari, Mac & Jac, Usher, Monet, Axcess, Curve and Mambo. But our focus today is the Mambo line.
Mambo Cologne in the Pop Culture
Mambo Cologne has been associated with Ronnie Mund, aka Ronnie the Limo Driver, who is sometimes heard from as Howard Stern’s personal limo driver and bodyguard. Ronnie the Limo Driver has several characteristics, including his propensity to wear Mambo Cologne – which “the strippers” love.
If you see references to Mund or limo drivers or strippers in relation to Mambo Cologne, it’s a reference to Ronnie Mund. That probably isn’t the kind of endorsement that Liz Claiborne Inc. would want associated with their mens cologne, though undoubtedly, Mambo Cologne came to the attention of millions of listeners this way.
